Jill Wyatt Marshall and Her Paintings
Watercolor is Jill Wyatt Marshall's favorite medium and her passion for accuracy and detail is accomplished by using a tight, realistic style. Jill has the ability to make the personalities of her models come alive in her paintings…with a slight tilt of the head…an adoring look…a swinging ponytail. She personally photographs her subjects; therefore her home and studio are filled with hug-worn teddy bears, rusty minner buckets, vintage clothes, hats, quilts and other treasures.
Jill began painting in 1995, but has always had an artistic spirit and a unique flair. Throughout her life, she has written poetry and music, played a number of musical instruments, sung in many different settings, has been Master of Ceremonies and entertained for several civic events, and has also owned and operated a gift store and two art galleries.
Jill comes from an incredibly artistic background. Her father, Kenneth Wyatt, is an internationally-known artist, her mother, Veda, is a sculptor and jewelry designer, and her brother, Mark, creates all of the Wyatt Galleries' original framing designs and also manages the Galleries' framing department.
Jill lives in Tulia, TX with her husband, Matthew. Their son Jakob, now resides in Amarillo, TX.
Matthew manages the Wyatt Galleries' foundry, Y-8 Bronze, as well as the
Wyatt Galleries' web site and IT operations. Jakob attended Stephen F.
Austin State University in Nacogdoches, TX where he was a high
jumper on the SFA Lumberjacks Track and Field team. (Dreams
DO come true!) Jakob, who works in the business as well, is now a third generation Wyatt artist working in oil on canvas.
When Jill was a small child, the Wyatt family began visiting Taos and
Santa Fe, N.M., where they frequented galleries, museums, and Indian markets.
(A continued family tradition)
Motivated by her lifelong adoration and respect for the Native American
culture and its history, Jill captures the quiet, noble beauty of its
people with paint and brush.
Jill's love for animals is a constant inspiration, and she excels at capturing the faithful bond between pets and their humans. Delightful glimpses of unconditional love, playful puppyhood or old and faithful friends are among Wyatt's best works.
"I love to paint children…being children." The challenge of portraying
a child totally consumed with being 4 years old is a difficult, yet exciting
one, according to Jill. Her paintings of sugar an' spice an' everything
nice or those of snails, whales, an' puppy dog tails are brimming
with wit, imagination and charm.
Jill continues to accept public speaking engagements and enjoys commission work and welcomes your inquiries. Commissioned art prices start at $500. If you would like more information about Jill speaking for your group/organization, or a special art commission, please contact Kenneth Wyatt Galleries.
