I’ve never gone so far down Palo Duro Canyon to paint before, but I’ll tell you this – it’s a big place. I was asked to paint a scene with a rider on the rim of the canyon carrying a Texas flag. That part was simple enough…except, finding a spot on the rim that gave dept and wideness. Well, there’s a place after you leave the Methodist campgrounds. About a mile or two past the waterfall and just about where what’s referred to as the walls of Jericho. Ceta Canyon sorta joins the Palo Duro on the caprock rim… that’s just the place. You ought a walk down there sometime! It’s only about 3 hours one way. Of course, when I got there, I was in the bottom of the canyon and I couldn’t find a way out except to go back and drive around to the previous spot…which takes another 3 hours to find. Moral of the story: If you wanna be on top…why not start at the top?
